LEED goes beyond buildings
LEED for Cities and LEED for Communities goes beyond buildings to advance sustainable development at the city and community scale, providing local leaders, developers and practitioners with a powerful sustainability framework and certification program aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
LEED for Cities and Communities has two main customer types:
Cities
Places with a governing body, such as cities, towns, counties, and other local government jurisdictions.
- Initiation: Certification is typically initiated by the governing body itself.
- Focus: The entire city or municipality is the scope of the certification.
Communities
Places that don't necessarily have a formal governing body, such as regions, districts, corporate campuses, large real-estate developments, business improvement districts (BIDs), economic development zones, neighborhoods, campuses, universities, and military installations.
- Initiation: Certification can be initiated by various entities, such as real estate developers, property owners, or consultants.
- Focus: A specific area or development within a larger region or city.
